Her choppy blue-and-blond hair hiding the fear in her eyes, a 15-year-old voiced her dislike for a hip-hop music group and got punched in the face by a classmate. The whole thing was caught on tape and social media helped police in their investigation. A crowd of six to 10 classmates were following the self-described emo girl and her boyfriend home from school in Newark, Ohio, on an autumn day in September. Some kids were taping it and others were egging on the assailant, who was on the school wrestling team. It all started because Alexis Xanders doesn’t like Insane Clown Posse. The 15-year-old suspect, who CNN is not naming because she is a minor, was charged as a juvenile Tuesday with individual counts of assault, menacing and unlawful restraint, Licking County Prosecutor Ken Oswalt said. He also confirmed they are looking into charging other people from the video for inciting the fight. The same day as the bullying incident, Chicago, Illinois, honors student Derrion Albert was beaten to death. The incident was captured on video and shared online. Three teens pleaded not guilty and were set to appear at a hearing on Wednesday.December 16, 2009
Blog #72 – Go to the following website:http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/06/08/apple.iphone.wwdc/index.html What do you think of this new phone and why?
I don’t think i’d get a phone like this, because it’d be a little too high tech for me. It’s something i wouldnt need, and it’s basically be a waste. I also don’t think it’s necessary to make another phone basically exactly the same as the orginal Iphone, because there’s not much to it. there might be a couple extra applications and whatnot, but nothing too serious.December 16, 2009
Blog #71 – Read the following article on identify theft. What did you find interesting? 4-5 sentences.. http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/12/07/identity.theft.costs/index.html
The identities of an estimated 9.1 million Americans have been stolen by thieves lifting personal information off the Internet or through other means, according to a 2008 survey conducted by Javelin Strategy & Research, a financial services research firm. But it often takes the average identity theft victim months, if not years, to resolve their case, security experts say. Some say that no matter what they do, they still encounter problems getting credit. Robert Guenterberg tried to open a checking account earlier this year, but says the bank turned him down because it confused him with the men who had stolen his Social Security number.December 16, 2009
Blog #70 – What year did the Titanic sink? Find the Titanic web site and list 5 interesting facts about the Titanic’s sinking.
The titanic sunk on april 12th, 1912. In total there was 1316 passengers and only 498 survived. There was 913 crew members in total and only 215 survived. That equals 2229 passengers and 713 survivers all together. This was apparently Captain E. J. Smith’s fault for the sinking of Titanic. He had to get to New York in Record time. Captain Smith Ignored 7 ice berg warnings from his crew and other ships. If he had called for the ship to slow down, the Titanic disaster wouldn’t have happened. People in 1912 believed that 70, 000 tonnes of steel would be unsinkable. The shipbuilders Harland and Wolff insist that the Titanic was never advertised as an unsinkable ship. They claim that the ‘unsinkable’ myth was the result of people’s interpretations of articles in the Irish News and the Shipbuilder magazine. They also claim that the myth grew after the disaster. The maiden voyage of the Titanic had attracted a number of rich passengers. A first class parlour suite cost £870 while a first class berth cost £30. There were 325 first class passengers on board – 175 men, 144 women and 6 children. 202 first class passengers survived – 57 men, 140 women and 5 children. One of the factors that makes the sinking of the Titanic so memorable is the fact that lives were needlessly lost. There were not enough lifeboats on board to hold all the passengers and crew and when the lifeboats were launched they were not filled to capacity.December 16, 2009

Many users are warming to the changes. But in the days that followed the switch, others were confused, or worse. Those switches also mean that more details about your activities are being broadcast to your network. Just became friends with someone? Joined a group? Commented on a discussion board? Your friends get alerts about all that. Some friends also may have slipped off your e-radar. If you have more than 250 friends, Facebook decides which of them you really want in your feed and which you don’t.December 14, 2009

Armed with a hand-held videocamera, a microphone, a laptop and an iPhone, Horvath approaches homeless people on their own turf and empowers them to share their personal stories. He posts the raw, unedited video interviews on his Web site, InvisiblePeople.tv, and other places. For Horvath, the stories he captures hit close to home. He was once a Hollywood distribution executive with a six-figure salary. In 1995, he lost it all to drug and alcohol addiction. Horvath cleaned up with the help of the Dream Center in Los Angeles, a nonprofit ministry and outreach that supplies food, shelter and life rehabilitation to people in urban areas. He went into faith-based broadcasting and marketing, and eventually relocated to St. Louis, Missouri, in 2005. After two years of stability, however, Horvath faced another challenge: the faltering economy. He lost his marketing job for a church in St. Louis and spent nine months unemployed.December 14, 2009
